WARM-FULL-SAFE by Miserable George

……..National Veterans Homeless Support…protecting and aiding our Vets….

The weather for the 9th. Annual Warm-Full-Safe Run, could not have been better, helping to get over 200 riders on the road to aid our Veterans!! I caught up with a large group of the riders out at Lone Cabbage Fish Camp, and I believe the scenery out there alone, was enough to really get them “spirited” for the ride ahead.  I returned home for a quick bite to eat, then on up to Post #1, just north of Titusville, on US#1, to capture the ending of the run.

I understand there was a minor mishap on the road, but, I was unable to get any details…hoping everyone was OK. The aroma of food cooking, plus the sounds of the Spanks Band, greeted me as I arrived, a witness to a huge throng of brothers and sisters…there to help the Homeless Vets, and help they did to the tune of over $10,000…well done folks!!! Door prizes, a raffle, and the 50/50 drawing, kind of rounded out the day. A big THANKS to all who contributed…you will not be forgotten!! GOD BLESS our Vets…and hey…Stand up for your country…

Critter Run….2018 by Miserable George

Despite the “Cold Spell” that hit Brevard County recently, turn-out for the 2018 Critter Run was pretty good…they told me 91 riders signed up!!! Starting point  was the Brevard County Animal Shelter out on Cox Rd. Riders were asked to bring much needed supplies for our furry friends, and, that they did!!!

The run covered scenic Brevard Co. countrysides, and ended at H&D Roadhouse, SR 520, on Merritt Island.

By this time, the temps had risen a bit, and everyone was a lot more comfortable, ready to indulge in a drink or two, and some of Harry’s fabulous food. Live entertainment all day, by some of the Roadhouses’ best musicians…I even saw some people DANCING!!! Awards were presented to riders for first place(best hand), worst hand, and a mystery hand.

We certainly did miss Sally, but I believe she was watching from up there on the Golden Road…RIP, Sal.

Hey, remember our Vets, and, stand up for the U.S.A….

WARBIRD AIR MUSEUM by Miserable George

Right next to Tyco Air Field, just south of Titusville, Fl., stands the Warbird Air Museum, which once a year, opens its doors for free, to all vets and Brevard County residents.

This year, I visited the Museum, which consists of a large gift shop, a huge room, filled with just about anything pertaining to military flight, from mess kits to parachutes, and boots to jet engines!!!PLUS, many actual aircraft, both jets and piston powered, including Tyco Belle, a DC-3 which participated in the Normandy Invasion…a REAL part of military history.

The restoration hanger now contains an F-14 Tomcat, being completely rebuilt, plus 2 small piston powered recon-type bi-planes. Over in the Nam era hanger, lives the queen of the skies…the mighty F-4 Phantom…! Plus several other Vietnam era fighters, and an array of models of everything you ever saw pertaining to military flight…very interesting. If you’d like to know something about any of the planes, there are personnel there who will answer all your questions! It was a very enjoyable visit. Food was available as were concessions for the kiddies…A few hours well spent…

COCOA BEACH BIKER BASH by Miserable George and Valgal

I can hardly believe that it’s been 21 years for this event, held this year at the beautiful Sunset Waterfront Grill & Bar on SR 520, Cocoa Beach, FL.

Two live bands: Hypersona, and the SCHD All American Band, belted out some fabulous entertainment. Waterfront’s large parking area was soon filled with motorcycles, as one of the biggest crowds to date filed in for an evening of just plain FUN.

Many clubs were represented, including:WMC, Fallen Few, Spirit Riders, Dicipal Christians, Remnant Sons, Sinners, Enforcers, Sons of GOD, Legion Riders, Leathernecks, Armed Forces, and Dragon Slayers. Folks, if we missed any club…please forgive us, we tried our best to get them all.

This year’s event was for the benefit of Nana’s House, where Neglected, Abused, Needy, or Abandoned children are taken in and properly cared for.

Funding is all volunteer donations. For more information, and how to donate, call 321-724-5111…thank you…!!

Later in the day, we were treated to a beautiful sunset over the Banana River. Speaking of “beautiful”…did I mention the ladies present…? WOW!!! Gotta thank them all, as well as WMC Cocoa Chapter, Tim Bishop, from SCHD, and all who helped make this years’ event a complete success. Nice little “after party” at the Cocoa CH after the Bash, to round out a perfect day. Ride Safe…

And don’t forget our Vets, and fighting men and women all over the world. Be proud…stand up for your country…

ROSCOE’S CHILI CHALLENGE…2018 by Miserable George

We rolled in about 10:15 AM Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, and what a pleasure it was…seeing all the people already there and all set up for an all-out FUN week-end!! I got my rig all set up, and traversed the grounds, looking for early photo-opps!!! AND, I got ‘em too!!

I was surprised at how fast the crowd was increasing, and preparing for the forth-coming week-end of FUN and FROLIC!!!

I turned in early to save my strength for what lay ahead…(little did I know!!!) Anyway, Friday dawned somewhat murky, pre-conditions for the big front that was heading our way, and, it arrived in a BIG way, with a down-burst, heavy rain, and at least 3 tornadoes sighted in the Lakeland area!! Needless to say, my camping rig was all but destroyed, bedding soaked, tent ruined, causing me to have to sleep in my truck for 2 days!!!! NOT GOOD for an old guy!! Surprisingly, right after the storm, the crowd DID  gather in front of the stage area…band was playing, vendors were selling, food and wares…everything back to normal. A storm did little to keep these bikers from having fun!! A welcoming ceremony took place, including a huge American Flag display, as well as banners representing all branches of our Military. The National Anthem was presented as was sounding of TAPS…very inspirational…!

Saturday dawned sunny and a bit cooler…Corn-hole tourney going on, chili cookers getting set up, and a steady stream of riders at the gate…waiting to enter and join the action.Biker games were starting, including slow races, weenie bite, and the ever-popular Out-house Races…lots of action, after which, it was time to sample all that sweet smelling CHILI. Whew…time to cool it a bit, take a seat, listen to the bands, check out the babes that MC Pogo was interviewing on stage…that guy is an artist!!! Later, awards were given out for Corn Hole, body paint, and of course…the best chili. All this mixed in with arm wrestling, custom bike awards, pole dancing, and another Flag Ceremony, and several “beauty contests”…!!! Folks…something for everybody!!

I’d like to thank Roscoe, David, Liz, Steve, and the whole staff for their hospitality and a job WELL DONE. Hope to see you all in 2019…

A Day at Cacklebery and the Cabbage Patch with Miserable George

As Biketoberfest, 2018, was winding down, ValGal and I hit Cacklebery Campgrounds, and (across the street)…the ol’ Cabbage Patch Bar and grounds.

Yeah, it was another blistering, hot day in Florida, but, we made up our minds that we’d stick it out as long as possible!! We first checked in with BIG DADDY, my good friend and neighbor, AND…Bandmaster!!! His band is PRIMO!!! Then, it was the usual walking around…checking out the chicks, displays, and the general lay of the land.

Later in the day, the World Renowned COLE SLAW WRESTLING. I guess the newbies get a real charge out of that…! For ME, it was torture in the hot sun…I’ll be honest about it.

We bumped into our good friend, ace lensman, Jackman…always nice to see him, and a few old friends as well.

Nice crowd out there, sweating their butts off, soaking up the suds!!! Val and I stood it as long as we could, and along with many others, decided the heat was just too much. But, despite the weather, it was a fun day…better than rain, I guess.

Don’t forget our Vets, and…stand up for your country…!!! See ya next time…

Billy Lane’s SONS OF SPEED by Miserable George

I gotta admit, THIS is the event I always really get very excited over…the Billy Lane-Sons of Speed old time board-tracker style bike races, at New Smyrna Speedway, in Samsula, Fl…held at both Biketoberfest, and Bike Week.

Our report doesn’t even scratch the surface of the action at the track. You gotta BE THERE, to take in the sounds and smells, as well as the images, created by these awesome machines, some of them nearly 100 years old!!!

Due to some sprinkles early in the day, the track had to be dried off to make it safe for the action later in the day. That being accomplished, the warm-ups and tune-up runs began. What a rush to watch and listen to those old machines, wingin’ it around the racing oval..! Luckily…no mishaps on the track, however, one machine blew a cylinder head clean off…!! Crazy!!!

After all the qualifying and the heats,

the final results were:

  • 1st. place-45’s…DougYoung….
  • 1st. Place stock ‘61’s…Jody Perewitz….
  • 1st. Place Hot 61’s…Tod Cochran

All in all, a fabulous day at the track. I gotta thank Billy Lane for his unmatched hospitality, and the Score Girls for putting up with me!!!  Hey, stand up for your country, and, GOD bless our Vets…they made all this possible…

**New Pics** TROPICAL TATTOO CHOPPER SHOW by Miserable George and ValGal

I’ve been attending this event for a good many years now, Biketoberfest, and Bike Week both, and the weather usually varies somewhere between hot and cold, BUT, this year for Biketoberfest, 2018, I think we broke a heat record…!! I mean, it was down-right UNBEARABLE. Even in the limited shady area…it was HOTTTT…!!

Even in the un-GODLY heat, the crowd was pretty nice for Biketoberfest…down a bit (of course) from regular Bike Week, but,

there was no shortage of beautiful, hand built, custom machines.

Ah, and of course, there were BABES!!! Maybe, THEY brought in SOME of that heat.

Big Rick, and the Troublemakers provided the swingin’ sounds, beer and hard iced tea stands (I guess), helped to quench at least a little bit of the thirst.

Gotta thank Wild Bill for a ride in his one-of-a-kind ‘40 Caddy Rat Rod…natural AC…(no windshield!!) I tell ya, we stuck it out as long as we could…got pics of the winners, but, not of the trophy presentations…sorry…just too HOT for this old boy.

Our thanks to Willie, and Roadside Marty for their usual fabulous event.

Hey, remember our VETS, and stand up for your country….
