UNITY RUN LEGION POST 359 by Miserable George

It was 41 COLD degrees when I left my place, and headed to Post 359 for the UNITY RIDE for Legion Boys & Girls. Fourteen other hardy souls had gathered there, and were ready to ride. MaryAnn led a prayer for safety, and they were off!! Post #1 was our first stop…for breakfast!!! Then it was on up north to the NSB and south Daytona area, where the group encountered an accident scene and were forced to turn back and seek a detour. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out too well, as the original group was now split up, and did not visit the last 2 planned stops. So, with the cold weather, an unplanned detour, and the scattering of the original group, a bunch headed back to the 359 headquarters where I encountered them later in the day.

I’d like to thank MaryAnn Baggaley and Brenda Pierce for their pictures and assistance…

In Loving Memory of Brandon by Valgal

On January 25th 2020 there was a poker run in honor of Brandon Thurber to help support NVHS. Brandon’s dream was to serve his country in the United States Navy. He dreamed of the day no veteran would be homeless. He would make sandwiches with chips in the morning before school and bring them to the veterans behind where we lived. Several he would talk to and got to know on a personal level. He was known to also give them the shoes off his feet to make sure they had a good pair to wear. Brandon would also support local stand downs in order to make them feel important, taking from his own time as a young child until he left for the Navy. His dream was to make sure they all had a roof and food. So in honor of Brandon Thurber we had a run that he would have loved…

These words were written by Brandon’s Mom, Tammy Thurber. She has been incredibly strong this last year and I pray for her every day… To lose a child must be the worst pain ever… We will always be here for you Tammy…

And a special thank you goes out to Doc Holiday for awesome music and of course Post117 for their hospitality…

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA by Miserable George

….at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery..

I was awakened by a raging thunder storm on Dec.14, 2019, the day of the Wreaths Across America event at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, on U.S.#1, just north of Mims, Fl. I was looking forward to this day, and now, I had no idea what might go down, however, as the morning wore on, the storms stopped, the skies brightened, and things looked a lot more promising.

I pulled into the Cemetery under blue skies and a huge crowd, estimated at well over 1500. The first event, was the delivery of the special wreaths to the speaker area, by a mule drawn  caisson. These wreaths were received by representatives of all branches of the Armed Services as well as the POW-MIA Rolling Thunder,FL. President. There were several speakers, including Congressman, Bill Posey. There was the Presenting of the Colors, National Anthem, Invocation, and Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a 21 Gun Salute, and, Taps, after which, the wreaths were laid on the grave-sites. All this was made possible by over 35 sponsors…groups and individuals from Brevard County. If YOU would like to sponsor a wreath, go to wreathsacrossamerica.org  click Local Fund-raising Group and type: FL0320. As always, the entire event went smoothly, with no tie-ups. I did a LOT of walking, but, I guess I needed the exercise!!!

Thanks to all the groups who helped to make this day a complete success.

GOD Bless you all…thank a vet today, and, stand up for your country…!

Remembering Pearl Harbor at Post 359 by Miserable George

I was just 7 years old when Pearl Harbor was bombed, and I just can’t seem to actually remember any of it. 78 years later…today, Dec. 7, 2019, we all remembered at Post 359’s Bike Day. Of course, the younger folks didn’t recall that horrible day in our history, but, there were a few older ones there who did. There was a moment of silence to commemorate that “Day in Infamy”…The large crowd also witnessed  the presenting of a $1000 check to aid the Vietnam and all Wars Vets Moving Wall Association, by the Nam Knights MC, Brevard County Chapter, plus short talks by Veterans Assn. officials. This was a day dedicated to Veterans…as well it should be!! As always, good food and drinks were available, a 50/50, and the live band, “Mid-life Crisis” supplied excellent entertainment. As always, lots of pretty ladies prancing around…a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon…!!

Hey, stand up for your country, thank a Vet, and God Bless America…!!

PULSATING PAULA by Miserable George

The Biker World has lost one of the BEST….Pulsating Paula has crossed over to Paradise.

She was the Mistress of Black & White photography…she had a very special way of capturing bikers on B&W film

and indeed color as well, but, B&W was her forte.

I met her back in the 70’s at the Hillclimb in Freemansburg, PA. We bumped into each other at Bike Week in Daytona, at the Reading MC Bash, and of course, at the Vous in upstate NY. Not only was she a fantastic photographer, but, she was quite a model too.

We will miss her…her smile, her work, and her out-going pleasing personality…she was the BEST!!!

Rest in Peace my friend….

EZ Benefit Ride by Valgal

The Dragon Slayers threw a party/benefit this weekend to help their fellow brother EZ get thru some tough times… That’s what bikers do for each other… I have never seen such unity than I have seen with us bikers! I love our family…My daughter Jessica even came to this bash and had a BLAST!!! Jasper and the boys of Twisted Minds Inc. Rocked it !! and when Glenn from Midlife Crisis plays with them things GO OFF!!!… Again, UNITY! We all work together to help each other out! We need to remember this in the tough times coming… But when it was all said and done, it was a HUGE success!…

Hang in there and Always be safe and careful out there…ENJOY

WARM-FULL-SAFE by Miserable George

After weeks of 80 plus temps, Warm-Full-Safe-2019, got blasted with cold, wet, and miserable weather…however, that did not seem to deter the large group of riders who roared into Legion Post #1 on Nov. 17, 2019.

Hot food and warm space heaters helped deter the cold, although, many riders preferred COLD refreshment!!! There was an auction and a motorcycle raffle to try your luck, plus a 50/50 drawing, AND, the Henderson Bros. Band…and yes, people were dancing!!!

All proceeds went to the National Veterans Homeless Support organization, to help provide a pleasant Christmas for homeless Vets. This was the 10th. year for this event, and, despite the nasty weather, I’d say was a success!!

Folks, we just cannot do enough for our Veterans, because, without them, we may not even be here…!!

GOD BLESS them all..!

Stand up for your country, thank a vet., and stay safe…
