POST 359 BIKE DAY AT THE TIKI by Miserable George

Under very cloudy skies, I rolled in to Post 359 at my usual time, and had to really scrounge around for a parking spot…I tell ya folks…the place was JAMMED!!

The band, “Hypersona” was wailing away, folks were dancing, and several people told me…”Check out the chick with the purple hair”…so, I did, and you can see the rather pleasant results…!! The food area was crowded, as were the 2 bars…one at each end of the huge Tiki Patio Deck..!!

The rain held off till around 3:30, but then, we got dumped on!! It moved out about 45 minutes later. There was a drawing for a Booze Basket, and of course, the 50/50, of which a large portion was donated back to 359. Folks, it was a fabulous day among friends!! The membership drive is in full swing, so, think about THAT!!!

Thank a VET today, stand up for your country, and may GOD BLESS AMERICA..!!

Yeah, this old man is thankful to live in a country like the U.S.A….!!!

National Veterans Homeless Support by Miserable George

It was when a group realized how sad the holiday season could actually be for homeless veterans, that the NVHS was formed. Events such as today’s gathering at American Legion Post #1, just north of Titusville, Fl., helped to raise some of the funds needed to provide for these veterans.  There was a Poker Run, which ended at Post#1, where there was hot food  waiting, plus live entertainment by the TMI (Twisted Minds Inc.) Band. Also on the agenda, were raffles and an auction, which featured some pretty valuable merchandise, plus a 50/50. From what I could see, the sizable crowd was really enjoying themselves, while providing for the homeless vets. Post #1 provides its guests with a huge pavilion, plus a bar and tables, both inside and out…all this plus beautiful weather accounted for the large crowd. Want a fun day…? Keep your eyes peeled for the next event at Post #1…tell ‘em Old School Biker Magazine sent ya…

UNITY RUN LEGION POST 359 by Miserable George

It was 41 COLD degrees when I left my place, and headed to Post 359 for the UNITY RIDE for Legion Boys & Girls. Fourteen other hardy souls had gathered there, and were ready to ride. MaryAnn led a prayer for safety, and they were off!! Post #1 was our first stop…for breakfast!!! Then it was on up north to the NSB and south Daytona area, where the group encountered an accident scene and were forced to turn back and seek a detour. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out too well, as the original group was now split up, and did not visit the last 2 planned stops. So, with the cold weather, an unplanned detour, and the scattering of the original group, a bunch headed back to the 359 headquarters where I encountered them later in the day.

I’d like to thank MaryAnn Baggaley and Brenda Pierce for their pictures and assistance…

PROJECT VetRelief DINNER by Valgal

Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 saw the Ballroom at Legion 359 filled to capacity for the Project VetRelief Dinner. There were many Post Officials attending from out of state, National Commander Bill Oxford, Department of Florida American Legion Commander Rick Johnson, Eastern area Commander Dennis Boland, Astronaut High JROTC, we had 1,200 hours of volunteer time and we raised $21,000…

A ceremony honoring Lost Vets was carried out by N. Titusville High School’s JROTC group…very inspiring indeed!! A very tasty dinner was served by caterer, Kelly’s Cuisine, a local family operated company. Several Legion officials gave short talks explaining the importance of the VetProject. After the dinner portion of the evening ended, Karaoke began in the main clubroom. All in all, it was a fully enjoyable evening. Folks, please thank a Vet today, stand up for your country, and GOD BLESS AMERICA…!!!

In Loving Memory of Brandon by Valgal

On January 25th 2020 there was a poker run in honor of Brandon Thurber to help support NVHS. Brandon’s dream was to serve his country in the United States Navy. He dreamed of the day no veteran would be homeless. He would make sandwiches with chips in the morning before school and bring them to the veterans behind where we lived. Several he would talk to and got to know on a personal level. He was known to also give them the shoes off his feet to make sure they had a good pair to wear. Brandon would also support local stand downs in order to make them feel important, taking from his own time as a young child until he left for the Navy. His dream was to make sure they all had a roof and food. So in honor of Brandon Thurber we had a run that he would have loved…

These words were written by Brandon’s Mom, Tammy Thurber. She has been incredibly strong this last year and I pray for her every day… To lose a child must be the worst pain ever… We will always be here for you Tammy…

And a special thank you goes out to Doc Holiday for awesome music and of course Post117 for their hospitality…

PROJECT VET RELIEF RUN by Miserable George

The weather could not have been any better for the Project Vet Relief Poker Run, on Sun. Jan.19, 2020, out of American Legion Post 359 on US#1 just north of Port St. John, FL. They tell me there were 60 sign-ins, which is not too bad for a Space Coast Week-end!!

The band-ROUGHOUSE– was already in full swing when I got there, and people were starting to shuffle. The big grille was loaded with burgers and fried baloney, and a large table held all the novelties and leather goods along with a bunch of bottles of “fire-water” to be auctioned off later. The 50/50 winner donated back $100 to the cause.

The new patio area at 359 was over-flowing with Vet-Relief supporters, doing their part to assist Florida Legions’ Vets. If YOU would like to help, go to www.projectvetrelief.org  They’ll give you all the info.

Hey, it was a fun day at 359…we met some very interesting people…YEAH!!!

Stand up for your country, thank a vet today, and may GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Twisted Funday Sunday by Valgal

Wow! What an awesome day this Sunday was at the American Legion Post 1 Sunday Funday… Tons of good food and plenty of face melting music going on by one of Brevard County’s TOP rock bands Twisted Minds, Inc. People come from all over to see this awesome band! They were also joined on stage by another great local band Seed. They rocked the day away from 1 til 5pm, boy does time fly when your having fun…

I got to see all my friends this weekend and that makes for one happy photographer… I’m not too good at writing stories about my day in words so I choose to tell you in photographs…

So with that being said please be safe out there and ENJOY!

BIKE DAY at AMERICAN LEGION POST #1 by Miserable George

Well, there was one thing besides the gorgeous weather that drew a good crowd at American Legion Post #1’s Bike Day on Jan. 12, 2020, and that was the Twisted Minds Inc. Band…(TMI) These guys are fabulous…! The dancing area was vibrating all day long…yep, a brief passing shower didn’t deter this group and/or their loyal followers. To further excite the crowd, there were drawings for a prize basket, and bucket of cheer, plus the usual 50/50. Lucky was there hawking his unique doo-dads made from MC chain, and, in the pavilion, there was food and plenty of bar action as well. Lots of convenient parking too for both bikes and 4-wheelers. A very unusual rendition of the National Anthem too, and guess what….no one “took a knee”…real AMERICANS here, folks…!!!

Our thanks to the whole crew at Post #1 for a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon!!

Hey, stand up for your country, thank a VET, and…GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
