In Loving Memory of Brandon by Valgal

On January 25th 2020 there was a poker run in honor of Brandon Thurber to help support NVHS. Brandon’s dream was to serve his country in the United States Navy. He dreamed of the day no veteran would be homeless. He would make sandwiches with chips in the morning before school and bring them to the veterans behind where we lived. Several he would talk to and got to know on a personal level. He was known to also give them the shoes off his feet to make sure they had a good pair to wear. Brandon would also support local stand downs in order to make them feel important, taking from his own time as a young child until he left for the Navy. His dream was to make sure they all had a roof and food. So in honor of Brandon Thurber we had a run that he would have loved…

These words were written by Brandon’s Mom, Tammy Thurber. She has been incredibly strong this last year and I pray for her every day… To lose a child must be the worst pain ever… We will always be here for you Tammy…

And a special thank you goes out to Doc Holiday for awesome music and of course Post117 for their hospitality…

PROJECT VET RELIEF RUN by Miserable George

The weather could not have been any better for the Project Vet Relief Poker Run, on Sun. Jan.19, 2020, out of American Legion Post 359 on US#1 just north of Port St. John, FL. They tell me there were 60 sign-ins, which is not too bad for a Space Coast Week-end!!

The band-ROUGHOUSE– was already in full swing when I got there, and people were starting to shuffle. The big grille was loaded with burgers and fried baloney, and a large table held all the novelties and leather goods along with a bunch of bottles of “fire-water” to be auctioned off later. The 50/50 winner donated back $100 to the cause.

The new patio area at 359 was over-flowing with Vet-Relief supporters, doing their part to assist Florida Legions’ Vets. If YOU would like to help, go to www.projectvetrelief.org  They’ll give you all the info.

Hey, it was a fun day at 359…we met some very interesting people…YEAH!!!

Stand up for your country, thank a vet today, and may GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

BIKE DAY at AMERICAN LEGION POST #1 by Miserable George

Well, there was one thing besides the gorgeous weather that drew a good crowd at American Legion Post #1’s Bike Day on Jan. 12, 2020, and that was the Twisted Minds Inc. Band…(TMI) These guys are fabulous…! The dancing area was vibrating all day long…yep, a brief passing shower didn’t deter this group and/or their loyal followers. To further excite the crowd, there were drawings for a prize basket, and bucket of cheer, plus the usual 50/50. Lucky was there hawking his unique doo-dads made from MC chain, and, in the pavilion, there was food and plenty of bar action as well. Lots of convenient parking too for both bikes and 4-wheelers. A very unusual rendition of the National Anthem too, and guess what….no one “took a knee”…real AMERICANS here, folks…!!!

Our thanks to the whole crew at Post #1 for a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon!!

Hey, stand up for your country, thank a VET, and…GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HARRY by Miserable George

Celebrating your birthday in January in Florida, in 70 degree weather has got to be the best way ever….and, Harry Vigliano, owner and operator of H&D Roadhouse in Merritt Island, on SR 520, got just that!!!

The party started about 8PM, Friday, January 10, 2020, at the Roadhouse, with the band “Mental Note” kicking things off, with the house being packed at around 9PM. Harry is a kind and generous man all year ‘round…always ready and willing to help out anyone who might run into a stretch of hard times.

He loves and respects all of his many customers who are more like close friends than people who help him earn a living!! It’s almost like one, big, happy family. I’ve known him for many years, and you can take it from me…the man is a PRINCE. Many customer-pleasing improvements have been made since Harry took over.

Hey, why not stop in at H&D Roadhouse for a cold one…Harry, wife Deb, and the whole crew will treat you right. Tell ‘em “Miserable” sent you…!!

Again Harry….HAPPY BIRTHDAY my friend…!

H&D Roadhouse…Christmas Party 2019 by Miserable George

Dec. 21, 2019, was a cloudy, drizzly, but warm night in our area of Florida…H&D Roadhouse to be exact, where their annual Christmas celebration took place. Not a good night to be riding motorcycles for sure!!! Never-the-less, a big crowd DID show up to usher in the Christmas Holidays!! The band-”Heat Stroke” had the place jumpin’ in no time flat, and as always, there was a table full of tasty goodies to whet your appetite, while you eye-balled all the female Santa’s helpers scampering around the premises!! Of course, Santa walked in and invited any and all to sit on his lap…THAT was a riot!!! Ashley won the “best dressed” contest, and Jess copped the “cookie contest”…!! I ran into some friends that I hadn’t seen for a LONG time….that’s always a treat!! Hey, we gotta thank Harry and Deb and their fabulous staff for a job well done…(always). They just make ya feel at home at H&D Roadhouse. I wish them all (and YOU) a Merry Christmas and the Happiest and most prosperous of New Years.

Don’t forget, thank a VET today, and stand up for your country…GOD BLESS AMERICA…!

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA by Miserable George

….at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery..

I was awakened by a raging thunder storm on Dec.14, 2019, the day of the Wreaths Across America event at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, on U.S.#1, just north of Mims, Fl. I was looking forward to this day, and now, I had no idea what might go down, however, as the morning wore on, the storms stopped, the skies brightened, and things looked a lot more promising.

I pulled into the Cemetery under blue skies and a huge crowd, estimated at well over 1500. The first event, was the delivery of the special wreaths to the speaker area, by a mule drawn  caisson. These wreaths were received by representatives of all branches of the Armed Services as well as the POW-MIA Rolling Thunder,FL. President. There were several speakers, including Congressman, Bill Posey. There was the Presenting of the Colors, National Anthem, Invocation, and Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a 21 Gun Salute, and, Taps, after which, the wreaths were laid on the grave-sites. All this was made possible by over 35 sponsors…groups and individuals from Brevard County. If YOU would like to sponsor a wreath, go to wreathsacrossamerica.org  click Local Fund-raising Group and type: FL0320. As always, the entire event went smoothly, with no tie-ups. I did a LOT of walking, but, I guess I needed the exercise!!!

Thanks to all the groups who helped to make this day a complete success.

GOD Bless you all…thank a vet today, and, stand up for your country…!

Remembering Pearl Harbor at Post 359 by Miserable George

I was just 7 years old when Pearl Harbor was bombed, and I just can’t seem to actually remember any of it. 78 years later…today, Dec. 7, 2019, we all remembered at Post 359’s Bike Day. Of course, the younger folks didn’t recall that horrible day in our history, but, there were a few older ones there who did. There was a moment of silence to commemorate that “Day in Infamy”…The large crowd also witnessed  the presenting of a $1000 check to aid the Vietnam and all Wars Vets Moving Wall Association, by the Nam Knights MC, Brevard County Chapter, plus short talks by Veterans Assn. officials. This was a day dedicated to Veterans…as well it should be!! As always, good food and drinks were available, a 50/50, and the live band, “Mid-life Crisis” supplied excellent entertainment. As always, lots of pretty ladies prancing around…a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon…!!

Hey, stand up for your country, thank a Vet, and God Bless America…!!

CRITTER RUN 2019 by Miserable George

The weather forecast for Nov. 24, 2019, was not TOO favorable…at least not in the morning, however, after some early showers, the sky DID turn mostly blue, and, the run was on!! Most of the 131 sign-ins were at the last minute, but, we squeaked them in. Many brought pet food, and other necessities. There was cake and goodies  in the front office, and a lovely little lady-Mac- was out front selling T-shirts. We missed our Traffic Lady, Patches, this year…she was side-lined with some health issues, BUT, she promises to return next time!! The run ended at H&D Roadhouse on SR 520 on Merritt Island, where the staff had some very tasty food waiting, plus the usual array of cold stuff to wash the dust away…!!! All of the run winners donated their money winnings back to the Humane Society…very generous indeed…!! The live entertainment consisted of “Jam Bands”, which got the job done very nicely. There were several items up for auction as well, which brought in a tidy sum to aid the animals..!!! I’d say it was a very enjoyable day all around. Thanks to Harry, Debbie, and Tayla, and  the crew, and the Humane Society reps for a very pleasant day.

Thank a Vet today, and, God Bless America…!!
