Legion Post 359….BIKE DAY by Miserable George

The forecast for Legion Post 359 Bike Day…May 4, 2019, was for showers and storms later in the day, and indeed, they came on…big time!! But, in the meantime, there was fun to be had at 359.

When I got there, the Spanks Band was already on stage, doing what they do best!! The chief cook had the grill covered with goodies, and, there was a nice line of folks, waiting to partake of the best burgers in Brevard County!!! Lots of the cold stuff to go around too!!

I noticed that the main parking lot has been enlarged…that’s the staff at 359…always looking out for us…thanks guys!!! Thanks too, to all the folks who picked up their Old School Biker Magazine at 359…we handed out several more while we were there!!

Hot weather, not-with-standing, folks were dancing up a storm…uh-oh…did I say “storm?” She blew in late in the afternoon…nasty!!! BUT, it was a FUN DAY anyway…always is, on BIKE DAY at 359…see ya all next time.

Remember our Vets, and, stand up for your country!!!

BIKE DAY at POST #1 by Miserable George

It had been quite awhile since I had hit Bike Day at Legion Post#1, on US#1, just north of Titusville Fl. Although a bit on the cool side, the weather wasn’t really too bad, and it made for a nice turn-out of scooter ridin’ bros and sisters. The food was something different: 3 BIG tacos for $6…your choice of beef or chicken…you add the fixin’s. I gotta say, they filled me up!!! The band, “Mid-life Crisis” was pounding out the sounds, with a few cute female vocalists…even had some shufflers out there…warming up I guess!! The usual 50/50, and a “Basket of Cheer” drawing made some riders pretty happy.

We’d especially like to thank POST #1 for their contribution to our(OSB magazine) cause!!! A big help…thanks again…!!  I left there with a full stomach and a smile on my face…the results of a really nice party!!! Remember our troops, and stand up for your country!!!

Wreaths Across America…2018 by Miserable George

Despite a very dismal weather day in Brevard County,

the Wreaths Across America event at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, on Sat., Dec. 15th., was a tremendous success!!

A huge crowd made their way from the out-lying parking areas, to the center of the activities, to witness the delivery of the MANY wreaths by a large semi truck, escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders…very inspirational…!! There was the Presentation of the Colors, several talks by military dignitaries, and the singing of the National Anthem by a sweet teenage girl, delivery of the Special Commemorative Wreaths by a horse drawn carriage, and Taps to end the program. All this, during a nagging drizzle, which thankfully ended as the folks began placing the wreaths on the graves.

I saw many tears among the participants, but I believe for many, it brought at least SOME closure…GOD bless our military…both living, and those who have crossed over…this is truly a very inspirational event…

TOY RUN….2018 by Miserable George

Merritt Square Mall Starting point

Dec. 2, 2018 dawned bright and mostly clear…a bit cool in the early hours, but, warming up FAST…perfect riding weather. AND, ride they did…

well over 500 machines…laden with goodies for the less fortunate kids of Brevard County.

They assembled at Merritt Square Mall, right in front of Macy’s huge store…we thank you Macy’s for THAT!!! We made the rounds to the strains of some old-time country music, provided by a mobile DJ.

I left a few minutes ahead of the main body, to secure a spot along the route to the ending point…Post #1, just north of Titusville.

There was no police escort this year, so I had to capture increments of the column as it was broken up by traffic lights along the way. I got my shots from almost ½ mile away, with my long lens, on a high spot on 405 near US#1. The column came into view as it topped the 405 Draw Bridge.

Then, it was on to American Legion Post #1…! By the time I got there, the bikes were all parked…on just about every available square foot of property at #1…a fabulous sight indeed!!

Many vendors of all kinds, 2 live bands, Doc Holiday, and the friendliness of the staff at Post #1. Many toys were collected, so a bunch of kids will have a Merry Christmas!! There was an auction, and of course…the 50/50 drawing.

Folks, by this time, this old boy was bushed!! We’d like to offer our thanks to the entire staff of Post #1…you people are 2nd. to none, and to all the countless folks who pitched in. Special thanks go to Space Coast Motorcycle Alliance and Robin Bailey for a flawless day. Maybe this was “step #1” to getting things back to where they were in the “old days”. As long as we keep getting the cooperation we got on Toy Run Sunday this year…this event will thrive, as it certainly must, to keep our future leaders(the kids) happy.

We thank GOD for a safe day, and for the fabulous weather.

Hey, remember our vets and fighting men and women all over the world, and…stand up for your country!!!

GOD bless you all….

WARM-FULL-SAFE by Miserable George

……..National Veterans Homeless Support…protecting and aiding our Vets….

The weather for the 9th. Annual Warm-Full-Safe Run, could not have been better, helping to get over 200 riders on the road to aid our Veterans!! I caught up with a large group of the riders out at Lone Cabbage Fish Camp, and I believe the scenery out there alone, was enough to really get them “spirited” for the ride ahead.  I returned home for a quick bite to eat, then on up to Post #1, just north of Titusville, on US#1, to capture the ending of the run.

I understand there was a minor mishap on the road, but, I was unable to get any details…hoping everyone was OK. The aroma of food cooking, plus the sounds of the Spanks Band, greeted me as I arrived, a witness to a huge throng of brothers and sisters…there to help the Homeless Vets, and help they did to the tune of over $10,000…well done folks!!! Door prizes, a raffle, and the 50/50 drawing, kind of rounded out the day. A big THANKS to all who contributed…you will not be forgotten!! GOD BLESS our Vets…and hey…Stand up for your country…

MEANDERING with MISERABLE

Well, I did something today…Oct. 13, 2018…that I don’t usually do…I screwed up…big time!! True, we DID hit the Biker Day at Legion Post #1, just after 1 PM. THAT part was fine!! The live band, Gypsy Rain was blasting away, folks were dancing, food was available, as were tickets for a raffle and 50/50…nice crowd there!! HOWEVER, we had planned to hit the car show at Fox Lake Park as well, but, not realizing that it had started at 10AM, when we arrived there just after 2PM…most of the entrants had departed…! DAMN!!!

Now, Fox Lake Park, being the beautiful place that it is, tempted a few groups to hang around awhile, so, we managed to capture several pics of some beautiful cars as well as the scenic surroundings. I searched for alligators, but, found none!! BUT, I did capture a brace of Sand Hill Cranes, feeding by a pond, so, the day was not a COMPLETE loss!! Sorry folks, but, these things DO happen from time to time. I will strive to make sure that this won’t happen again.

Hey, stand up for your country, and GOD BLESS the USA!!!

A BENEFIT FOR CLIFF JONES by Miserable George

This past July, Cliff was stricken with a massive stroke, and blood clots, and is now under treatment at Holmes Regional…his bill will be astronomical, and so, a benefit was held at Legion Post #1, on US#1, just north of Titusville, Fl., on Sept. 15, 2018.

The huge crowd participated in an auction, 50/50, a raffle, and was treated to a car and motorcycle show. Hungry….?? There was a big food van there to take care of THAT!!! Entertainment was supplied by the Vintage Band, featuring singer, “Brittany”, who belted out a real mean song. Her rendition of “House of the Rising Sun” had me ‘Tearing Up” just a bit…!!!

Cliff’s lovely daughter, Brittany Bonnichsen, hustled around the grounds all day long, making sure everything was running smoothly…AND…it did…!!! Awards were presented to winners in the car and motorcycle competition.

The out-door bar and lounge was jumpin’ all day, with welcome fans to cool it down a bit!! All in all, a fun day for a very worthy cause. Cliff, we wish you all the best for a speedy recovery…

VETERANS FOR HOPE…Legion Post 359…by Miserable George

Helping
Out
Patriots
Everyday

This was an event that I had looked forward to for awhile now, and the weatherman really cooperated. Afternoon thunder showers are the norm for our area, but, not today…it was perfect…a bit warm maybe…but nice. We were honored with the presence of Barry Roberts, American Legion Chaplain, and Chris Hamrick, 12th. District Commander. Mr. Roberts did give a very inspiring talk about the needs of Veterans, after which a donation was taken up…a long line actually formed to get to the donation jug….you don’t see THAT very often…!!! Music was provided by the SCHD All American Band, along with HD’s Tim Bishop. Also, the Hamburger Man was there again, along with lots of other goodies to whet your appetite , plus 2 outside bars on the huge, new patio deck, which by the way, was packed with vets and friends. One thing I really liked, was the huge American Flag hanging up alongside the deck, and the playing of the National Anthem….no kneeling here folks!!! All in all, a very entertaining and inspirational day. Remember our Vets…always, and GOD bless them…

BIKE DAY AT 359 by Miserable George

Man, I can hardly believe it’s June already…! Bike Day went on as usual, even during the expansion of the elevated patio and Tiki Bar out back. Work is progressing very nicely, the bikers are adjusting to a slight inconvenience as far as floor space, etc.

The band, “Freeway” wailed away all day, and despite the heat…there were people dancing..!!

ME…? Well, I settled for one of Chief Cook Sean’s huge, hand made burgers, and all that goes with it..!

We DID talk Liz and daughter Shelby into posing with a couple hot rods out in the parking area.

It was a fun day with a group of friendly folks.

Need something to do on the first Saturday of the month…? Head on up to Legion Post 359 on US#1, just north of Port St. John around 1PM. Tell ‘em Old School Biker Magazine sent ya.

Hey, ride safe, and, stand up for your country…!!!
