CACKLEBERY AND CABBAGE by Miserable George

Our favorite area on Wednesday of Bike Week is Cacklebery Campground and the Cabbage Patch, out in Samsula. We rolled in late Wed. morning and began our trek around the campgrounds, checking out the various vendors and attractions, and of course…people…(babes)…! Two ladies there had a “pain station”, there was “slime wrestling”, massage tables, regular tag-team wrestling, the “Wall of Death”, and some cute beer girls. After awhile, I did venture across 415 to the Cabbage Patch grounds to witness, among other things, the Cole Slaw Wrestling, the Budweiser Clydesdales, more beer girls, my favorite MC, Radical Randy, and fellow photog…Jackman. I always enjoy walking the perimeter of the big field and talking to the spectators as well as getting some interesting pics!! After the wrestling, I dragged my tired ass back to Cacklebery to catch the “Big Daddy Band”…my favorite group.

By now, this old boy was BUSHED and ready to head for home. All in all, it was a fun-filled day, mixing it up with the Bike Week crowd. Met a few new people…that’s always nice…!

GOD bless America!!!

Billy Lane’s SONS OF SPEED…# 10 by Miserable George

…..Billy Lane and company does it again…

First, I’d like to thank Robin Bailey for all her invaluable assistance in covering this very COLD #10 Sons of Speed Race at New Smyrna Speedway.

When I say “cold’, I mean the weather, NOT the track action!! Right off, we noticed an increase in the number of competitors over last time…a definite sign that this sport is gaining in popularity!! Billy Lane himself worked the flag tower this year, and wasted no time in getting the action started right after the National Anthem and invocation.

There were 12 heats this time, made up of 45’s, early 61’s, and, hot 61’s, and, despite the COLD weather, the action on the half-mile was hot and heavy. Folks, THIS is real old school “board track” style motorcycle racing…if you close your eyes, you can almost see the boards!!!! No brakes, no clutch, and no trannies…starting and stopping is a real chore, but these racers handled it with ease!!!

We’ve published copies of the final results, so, YOU take it from there. I don’t wanna make any mistakes.

Our BIG thanks to Billy and Erin Lane, and the entire crew for bringing back this “old school” event, and I look forward to many more!! I thank them too, for their fabulous hospitality…!

See ya next time…Miserable George

UNITY RUN LEGION POST 359 by Miserable George

It was 41 COLD degrees when I left my place, and headed to Post 359 for the UNITY RIDE for Legion Boys & Girls. Fourteen other hardy souls had gathered there, and were ready to ride. MaryAnn led a prayer for safety, and they were off!! Post #1 was our first stop…for breakfast!!! Then it was on up north to the NSB and south Daytona area, where the group encountered an accident scene and were forced to turn back and seek a detour. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out too well, as the original group was now split up, and did not visit the last 2 planned stops. So, with the cold weather, an unplanned detour, and the scattering of the original group, a bunch headed back to the 359 headquarters where I encountered them later in the day.

I’d like to thank MaryAnn Baggaley and Brenda Pierce for their pictures and assistance…

Warlocks Brevard…38 Years Strong by Miserable George

I’ve been a “hang-around” at this Chapter for over 29 years now…I’ve watched it change, move to new quarters, lose Brothers, gain Brothers, and settle into the huge Clubhouse that it presently owns on SR 520 across from the Ford Dealer in Cocoa, Florida. On Sat., Feb. 15th., 2020, Brevard celebrated their 38th. year, along with the Annual Valentine’s Day Massacre!! Despite some sprinkles, a nice crowd rode in to help celebrate with food, cold ones, a hot juke box, and a bunch of even hotter ladies!! I was fortunate enough to meet up with several Brothers and Sisters whom I hadn’t seen for quite a few years.

I’d like to extend my thanks to the Brevard Chapter for all the help they extended when I was doing my free-lancing with several of the now-defunct (paper) Motorcycle publications…it certainly helped me get a good start!!

Please check out their events…you’ll thank me.

Good Luck Brothers…keep up the good work…

PROJECT VetRelief DINNER by Valgal

Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 saw the Ballroom at Legion 359 filled to capacity for the Project VetRelief Dinner. There were many Post Officials attending from out of state, National Commander Bill Oxford, Department of Florida American Legion Commander Rick Johnson, Eastern area Commander Dennis Boland, Astronaut High JROTC, we had 1,200 hours of volunteer time and we raised $21,000…

A ceremony honoring Lost Vets was carried out by N. Titusville High School’s JROTC group…very inspiring indeed!! A very tasty dinner was served by caterer, Kelly’s Cuisine, a local family operated company. Several Legion officials gave short talks explaining the importance of the VetProject. After the dinner portion of the evening ended, Karaoke began in the main clubroom. All in all, it was a fully enjoyable evening. Folks, please thank a Vet today, stand up for your country, and GOD BLESS AMERICA…!!!

In Loving Memory of Brandon by Valgal

On January 25th 2020 there was a poker run in honor of Brandon Thurber to help support NVHS. Brandon’s dream was to serve his country in the United States Navy. He dreamed of the day no veteran would be homeless. He would make sandwiches with chips in the morning before school and bring them to the veterans behind where we lived. Several he would talk to and got to know on a personal level. He was known to also give them the shoes off his feet to make sure they had a good pair to wear. Brandon would also support local stand downs in order to make them feel important, taking from his own time as a young child until he left for the Navy. His dream was to make sure they all had a roof and food. So in honor of Brandon Thurber we had a run that he would have loved…

These words were written by Brandon’s Mom, Tammy Thurber. She has been incredibly strong this last year and I pray for her every day… To lose a child must be the worst pain ever… We will always be here for you Tammy…

And a special thank you goes out to Doc Holiday for awesome music and of course Post117 for their hospitality…

PROJECT VET RELIEF RUN by Miserable George

The weather could not have been any better for the Project Vet Relief Poker Run, on Sun. Jan.19, 2020, out of American Legion Post 359 on US#1 just north of Port St. John, FL. They tell me there were 60 sign-ins, which is not too bad for a Space Coast Week-end!!

The band-ROUGHOUSE– was already in full swing when I got there, and people were starting to shuffle. The big grille was loaded with burgers and fried baloney, and a large table held all the novelties and leather goods along with a bunch of bottles of “fire-water” to be auctioned off later. The 50/50 winner donated back $100 to the cause.

The new patio area at 359 was over-flowing with Vet-Relief supporters, doing their part to assist Florida Legions’ Vets. If YOU would like to help, go to www.projectvetrelief.org  They’ll give you all the info.

Hey, it was a fun day at 359…we met some very interesting people…YEAH!!!

Stand up for your country, thank a vet today, and may GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Twisted Funday Sunday by Valgal

Wow! What an awesome day this Sunday was at the American Legion Post 1 Sunday Funday… Tons of good food and plenty of face melting music going on by one of Brevard County’s TOP rock bands Twisted Minds, Inc. People come from all over to see this awesome band! They were also joined on stage by another great local band Seed. They rocked the day away from 1 til 5pm, boy does time fly when your having fun…

I got to see all my friends this weekend and that makes for one happy photographer… I’m not too good at writing stories about my day in words so I choose to tell you in photographs…

So with that being said please be safe out there and ENJOY!

HAPPY NEW YEAR…from H&D ROADHOUSE by Miserable George

Well, as luck would have it, the weather turned cold on New Years Eve, but, there were 2 riders mixed in with the nice crowd at the annual New Year’s Eve celebration at H&D Roadhouse,SR 520, in Merritt Island, FL. However, the band, “Heatstroke” got the place warmed up pretty quickly with a great selection of tunes, and, I did hear many compliments aimed toward them all evening long…! Also, there were the usual snacks provided as well as the gorgeous Jello Shot Lady, and campaign drinks for all at midnight. For me again, it was like “old-home-week”…meeting several persons I hadn’t seen for quite a spell.

A big THANKS to Harry and Deb and their entire crew for a job well done, not only THIS night, but all year long…those people are fabulous…!!

Hey, from Old School Biker Magazine, we wish all of you the very best in the coming new year.

Be safe, stand up for your country, thank a VET today, and GOD BLESS you all…!
