WOODSMAN CUP RACING by Miserable George and Valgal

ValGal got an invitation to attend a motorcycle racing event deep in the backwoods of Seminole County, sponsored, endorsed, and sanctioned, by Woodsman Cup.

It turned out to be a combination of scrambles, and a mini-motocross, on a dirt track, carved out of a thick patch of woods!

There were classes from kids’ mini-bikes, all the way up to big twins!! The track action was policed by safety flag-men, just like the big leagues!! The riders line-up included quite a few LADIES, and, these chicks could RIDE!! There were a few spills, but, to my knowledge…no injuries!!

There was food, drink, and live entertainment by the Oak Hill Drifters, also, a make-shift bucking bronc, and, as the sun was setting, a BIG raffle, including grab-bags, merchandise, helmets,(ValGal won one!!), and the grand prize,a motorcycle!!! That was won by a VERY happy young lady!!!

It was a very nostalgic, and entertaining day for me, taking me back to my club racing days!! Wanna thank Fox and his crew for their hospitality…looking forward to the next event!!!

ROSCOE’S CHILI CHALLENGE…2017 by Miserable George

We pulled into ROSCOE’S CHILI CHALLENGE…2017 on Thursday morning at 10AM, and, the place was already bustling with activity…bikes moving in and out, campers setting up for the week-end, vendors preparing for business, the sound man hooking up the system…etc!!! Looked good!!! Best part was, the food vendors were open!!! After setting up our camp, my partners, Jay and Donny, and I, made a bee-line for John’s Heavenly Hotdogs and pigged out!!! Later, I traversed the perfectly manicured camping area, looking for people that I might know…and…I found them!!  It’s nice hooking up with friends that you’ve not seen in about year. I might add, that the weather was perfect!! Also, time for this old guy to rest up for a big day on Friday!!

No actual events planned for Friday, but, there was live music, and a pretty steady stream of riders entering, and searching out that “perfect” camping spot! I might add here, that the main camp area was serviced by 50 Potra-lets, as was the more “primitive” area across the bridge, and the main vendor and activities areas in front of the stage. The units were serviced regularly too!!! Several good eating stands, a bar for adult beverages, as well as

MANY merchandise vendors…jewelry, biker related items, T-shirts, a lady sewing on patches, a man doing pin-striping, and a very interesting Kettle Corn thing, ,managed by 2 gorgeous babes, turning out bushels of pop corn!! I probably missed a few…sorry!!

Saturday morning saw the on-going horseshoe matches, plus…of course…the cooking of the chili. Li’l Hank had the big Roscoe cauldron bubbling away in no time!! Meanwhile, across the yard, Geoff was getting the biker games started. Slow race, weenie bite, and of course, the biggie…the Out-house Races!! Pretty soon,

the aroma of fresh cooked chili took over, and the crowd formed long lines to get some and DIG IN!!! Again, several different varieties of home-made RED to suit everyone’s taste!!

And again…I over-did it!!! AND…free beer to wash it all down!! Following the scarfing down of the chili, the mini-bikes started warming up for some exciting racing…in a new location this year, but, none-the-less exciting. One guy got knocked clean out…he was OK, but a bit rattled!!! After a period of rest and relaxation, there was arm wrestling, a tattoo contest, a body paint contest, and this year…yes…a “Beauty Contest”, plus lots of pole dancing. Trophies and awards were given out for all the competitive events. The official welcoming events included the National Anthem, and playing of “Taps”, plus a display of all the U.S. service banners…a very emotional tribute to our Armed Forces…no “kneelers” here!!! Live music continued till the wee hours, and, all too soon, another edition of Roscoe’s Chili Challenge was history!!  We had a blast, and, working with Don Rogers from Easyriders Magazine was a pleasure too!!  My thanks to David, Roscoe, Pogo, Mike, Geoff, Steve, Liz, and the entire crew who made this a Chili Challenge to remember. Also “Little Girl”, Laura, Kim, Tammy, and Kayla, and all the other ladies who really sparked up my time at the big party. If I forgot anything…please forgive me! Looking forward to my 27th. party next year. Hey, ride safe, remember our vets…

Billy Lane’s Sons of Speed by Miserable George

Ever since I saw the first Sons of Speed Race, I been chompin’ at the bit for the next one, and this past Oct. 21, 2017, out at NSB Speedway…it happened!!!

We got there early, went over to the pit area, and were amazed at the array of old school Board-track racing machines…a few, almost 100  years old..!!! I noticed Harley’s and Indians, if there were other makes…well, I missed them.

It was an absolute joy to watch the warm-ups and tuning of these legendary machines!! Some of the riders even wore suits that made them look like they just stepped out of the past!! Billy Lane himself, wore an old-time leather helmet!!

These bikes have no clutch, no tranny, and, NO BRAKES!! Put ‘em up on a stand, and yank on the rear wheel, and mostly, they will sputter to life; or get a push, or coast down from the edge of the high bank on turn-4!!!

They call it “Sons of Speed”, BUT, there are several “Daughters” of Speed running as well, including Shelly Rossmeyer, and Roxie….(just Roxie, was all I got!!), and last races’ winner, Brittney Olsen. She was ready to ride, but, her bike wasn’t completed as yet, but, she didn’t exactly “sit” it out…she was running all over the grounds, sporting a cute little cheerleader type outfit. Roxie was a rookie, but finished 2nd. in a heat, and was giving Billy Lane a run for his money!!

A rider named Jake, #13 , was the eventual winner for the day. He received a beautiful hand tooled trophy.

We had the pleasure of meeting Roxie, along with Rick Petko from Orange Co. Choppers, plus MC Bubba Blackwell!!

All in all, it was a fantastic day!

I wanna thank Billy Lane for his hospitality, and NSB Speedway for a fine facility. Looking forward to Bike Week, 2018 for the next Sons of Speed event!!! Stay tuned….

Willie’s Tropical Tattoo Chopper Show by Miserable George

Once again, the Biketoberfest fans were rocked at Willie’s Tropical Tattoo, with some of the most unusual hand-made choppers from far and wide…around the state of Florida, and beyond!!

A horde of eager revelers piled in at around noon, and partied hearty till about 5PM.

Despite the Florida afternoon heat, Big Rick and the Troublemakers had the crowd boogying, Twisted Tea helped quench some thirsts, and, of course, the many babes had the old eye-balls poppin’!!!

Things were good, ‘cause, ol’ Willie was walkin’ around all day with a big smile on his face!! As has happened before, we didn’t feel any rain until the main show was complete, and then, just a few random drops.

Gotta thank Roadside Marty for all his spontaneous humor, and his efforts to get a few of the ladies to pop their tops…YEAH!!! Hey, it’s Biketoberfest!!!

ValGal and I really enjoyed the day at Tropical Tattoo!!! Next Spring, it’ll all happen again!! Thanks to Willie and the crew for a job well done!!!
